Ventilation Helps Fight Indoor Air Pollution for Production

Indoor air pollution has been ranked among the top five environmental risks to public health. Contaminated air can cause higher incidences of health-related problems that can easily lead to employee dissatisfaction, absenteeism, production losses, and worker's compensation claims.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASRAE) determines indoor air quality by ACH (air changes per hour) and rates of:

Airborne pollution
Heat
Humidity (and)
Odor

Air quality deemed acceptable by ASHRAE standards can be achieved with the use of ventilation exhaust fans. Look for exhaust fans that will help you achieve air exchange at the following rate: .35 (or 3 CFM) for every 100 square feet.

Once you determine the proper fan size, check exhaust ducts—they should form a straight path to the outside of the building. Poor layout or improper installation can cause a static pressure imbalance, drafts, and odors. Be sure exhaust vents and air supply vents are in separate locations to avoid cross-contamination.

Updating your system is an investment. With quality air controls, building occupants will be healthier and more alert, leading to higher satisfaction and overall production.
